Construction of a well in Gilgil

Our project in Gilgil is currently dependent on water from the municipality. Unfortunately, this is very unreliable. We have therefore now started to build a borehole in Gilgil to ensure a reliable water supply.

To this end, the Plön church community and the Weltladen managed to obtain 22,000 euros as a fixed amount for our well construction project from the Bingo! environmental lottery. However, the costs are around 28,500.00 euros. Now we hope to be able to realise this project with the help of many donors.

Weltladen Plön has been supporting various projects around the world with its surpluses for years. For some years now, the Children's Hope Home e.V. (CCH) in Kenya has also received donations for two partner children, a greenhouse, sewing machines, school uniforms and a new cooking centre, among other things. We were also able to pass on money for food donations and the lunch project in Gilgil.

A training project in manual trades for young people will be set up on the project site. The basic buildings already exists and is already available for preparing and serving lunches to local primary school pupils in need.
The construction of the well will provide a reliable water supply, which will facilitate the preparation of the current lunches and, in the long term, enable the school to be supplied with water. The cultivation of fruit and vegetables in the school's own garden should also increase the sustainability of this project.

The drilling work has already begun and we have already discovered water. In order to store the water, a water tower with two water tanks of 10,000 litres each is to be built. A solar pump and solar panels are also to be installed. We still need money for this.

We, the church community and the Weltladen, hope to be able to give the young people a perspective with this project.
